Mutations

Mutating plants is necessary to obtain the chemicals required for hard level contracts in the Research Data Terminal.

It may seem daunting at first, but it really only boils down to luck!

Applying Mutations

In order to mutate plants, you will need to apply Unstable Mutagen to them and then cross your fingers.

Each mutation has a 15% chance of mutating the plant's species and a 20% chance to mutate new chemicals.

This is more common than you may expect.

Species mutations and regular mutations are not exclusive, both can happen and often do at the same time.

When a new chemical is added to a plant, there is a 40% chance that an additional "special" chemical is added to the plant.

Only some plants have "special" chemicals, and some plants require mutation into a subspecies as that subspecies has the "Special Chemicals".

An example of obtaining a "special" chemical would be:

Apples -> Mutate Species -> Poison Apples -> Mutate -> Cyanide

Important Plant Subspecies

Special chemicals and their sources

The chemicals needed for hard contracts can be obtained from these plants.

"Mutated" means that the plants need to be mutated to yield the chemical.
